The Nanny and the CEO Page 16
“After you went to sleep, I thought about it all night long and knew you were right. I grew up with siblings and can’t imagine being an only child. I didn’t want that for Jamie, either.”
His hands cupped her face. “You’ve been to an ob-gyn?”
“Yes. He’s one Leah recommended. I really like him. He said everything looks good.”
“Reese—”
He lay back down and ran his hand over her stomach. “I can’t believe you’ve got our baby in there.”
“You’re really happy about it?”
A sound escaped his throat. “What a question.”
“I’m glad because I am, too. Ecstatic! We’ll figure it all out.”
“After taking care of Jamie, what’s another one.”
She laughed and rolled into him. “For the man who didn’t know how to diaper a baby, you’d win the father-of-the-year award now. I sent for something special for you to celebrate. Why don’t you go downstairs and get it. It’s the carton with the red ribbon tied around the middle.”
“I’ll be right back.” In a minute he’d returned.
She raised herself up on her elbow. “Go ahead and open it.”
Like a little kid ripping at his Christmas present, he tore off the paper in no time. “What’s this?” He lifted out the bottle. “Deer Springs Wine from Lincoln.” His gaze flicked to hers. A smile lit up his face. “They produce wine in Nebraska?”
“It is pretty amazing. Pretty good, too. The label will tell you it comes from a hearty grape called the Edelveiss that can withstand the cold, the heat and the prairie winds.”
His eyes glazed over. “That could be a description of my Nebraska nanny who withstood everything thrown at her and is now a Seventh Avenue broker to be reckoned with.” He walked to the kitchen and found a supply of paper cups she’d put out. After he removed the cork, he poured himself some.
Then he walked back to the bed and sat next to her. “Salut, my pregnant love,” he spoke in a deep velvety voice. “May our partnership last forever.”
“I’ll drink to that one day. I love you, Nick. To forever.”
